OSHA reports that in 2014, 804 Hispanic or Latino workers were killed from work-related injuries in 2014—on average, more than 15 deaths a week or two Latino workers killed every single day of the year, all year long. Two Latino workers every day of the year.
And that is what they know about. Is it possible that there are countless undocumented workers that are killed and never reported? It is not only possible, but probable.
When everyone finds that number unacceptable, then something will be done. Until that time, it is near certain that these numbers will worsen as the new administration deregulates industry. Lesser rules and regulations and budget cuts will make workplace safety suffer and the Latino worker will pay the price.
